WHAT TO DO AFTER THE FIRE

Before entering the structure check with Fire Officials to make sure it is safe to enter the structure.

Contact your Insurance Claims Department

• You should contact your Insurance Company or Agent as soon as possible after the incident. The Fire District can assist you.
• You should not discard and damaged belongings until your Insurance Representative tells you to do so.

Make sure your home or business is protected from elements and illegal entry

• The Fire District will make every effort to assist you in covering all openings in windows, walls and roof with plywood.
• Make sure all doors and windows lock secure. The Fire District will assist you.
• If the house is left unattended, the Fire District will notify the local police and ask for assistance in “watch” of the property while passing.
• Other private service companies offer service for protecting your home. Look under “Fire and Water Restoration” in the yellow pages.

If you rent

• Contact the property owner or representative to inform them of the situation. It is the owner’s responsibility to secure the property.
• If you have renters insurance, contact your insurance agent immediately.
